This paper provides an almost exhaustive survey of the existing problem and solutions in a uniform manner, presenting their memory organization, shared memory, distributed memory, distributed shared memory, Memory Consistency Model and software based DSM mechanisms and issues of importance for various DSM systems and approaches.
