Many surveys indicate that management rates management information systems (MIS) as less than successful in more than 50% of cases. In auditing a material requirements planning (MRP) system, Cox, Zmud and Clark (1981) stated that the reason up to 95% of systems fail is because of lack of planning. A successful system is understood and accepted by all members of the company. The greatest successes in computer application lie in the area of computer-controlled robots. Renewed commitments by management, along with the development of CAD/CAM systems, will help resolve the problems that have been encountered by MIS systems. | |
