| Resumen: | The Science Library Catalog (SLC) research project is developing online systems for use in children's libraries. To date, 2 electronic catalogs have been downloaded for use in the SLC project - about 1,500 records from the University Elementary School on the University of California at Los Angeles campus and more than 8,200 records from the Los Angeles Public Library. In both cases, the source file is specified in MARC record format, but each situation required a unique procedure for carrying out the conversion. For both libraries, data were translated to a common intermediate format appropriate for uploading by SLC's HyperCard stacks. Then, it was quite simple to write a HyperCard script for uploading data. In the current implementation of SLC, there are 2 HyperCard screens for each holding in the catalog. Once the complete database has been created, HyperCard offers an excellent graphical interface for displaying bibliographical information. |
