Whakaahuatanga
Whakarāpopotonga:Structured Query Language (SQL) of relational database model does not have the expressive power to implement recursive queries. Consequently, recursive queries are implemented as an application program in the host language. The newly developed XML schema provides a different setting for database design and query implementation. In this thesis, we design and implement an XML schema and a set of associated queries for a bibliographic database. We will investigate and demonstrate the shortcomings of both Xpath and Xquery as standard query languages for XML-based databases. We then show an efficient implementation of the recursive queries in XSLT programming language.
