| Resumen: | This study examined the use of Computer-Aided Instruction (CAI) as a viable tool for the classroom teacher. The program Are We There Yet?: Mapping Skills (CAI), authored by the researcher, was designed to teach map-reading skills within the Content Standards of the History-Social Science Framework for California Public Schools related to Grade One curriculum. Thirty-nine first grade students were asked to volunteer to field-test this program. Students were given a pretest about maps, and then they worked independently through the program. Upon completion, post-test and affective tests were given to the students. A statistical analysis showed post-test scores significantly higher than pretest scores. Overall, students gave a positive response to the program and enjoyed using it. Results showed the program Are We There Yet?: Mapping Skills was an effective tool to use to teach mapping skills to elementary students. |
