Résumé:In September 1995, [HUGH SALMON] wrote to Wandsworth Council as soon as his neighbours, Robert and Karen Cole, informed him of the extension. He detailed his objections and inquired whether the Coles would require planning permission. A Mr Plume of Wandsworth Council confirmed he had received no application for planning permission but assured Salmon that the Coles could not continue until the planning position had been clarified. He did, however, mention that "it is possible that the proposal will be amended to bring it within the limits of `permitted development' ". Although the ridge is not higher than the level of the original roof, from the Salmons' house it looks as if the Coles have built another floor. Salmon says a conventional loft conversion would have been less intrusive because it would have retained the slanting roof. The Coles' large box extension juts away from the roof, allowing them to follow the stricture of ridge height while creating more space.
