Περίληψη:In an era of rapid technological change, business email compromise has become a major threat to financial enterprises. Phishing threats are becoming more accurate, increasing in reach, and with devastating effects. There is a lack of research assessing the ability of business leaders to detect email phishing based on the leaders’ decision modes. This study sought to address this gap by exploring the role of financial leaders’ abilities to detect email phishing based on their individual decision-making modes. The researcher used a quantitative methodology and a correlational design. Three research questions were formulated, each with a null and alternative hypothesis. The researcher sought to understand which of the six decision-making modes [affect, calculation, identity, habitual, social norms, moral] was most prevalent among financial leaders. The investigator also sought to understand whether there was a difference between decision-making modes among financial leaders. The researcher also wanted to establish the correlation between financial leaders’ abilities to detect phishing and their decision-making mode. Convenience sampling was used to recruit a total of 146 participants. Two survey questionnaires, namely The Phish Scale and the Domain-general Decision Mode Scale (DDMS), were used to collect data from participants. The surveys were conducted via SurveyMonkey. SPSS v27.0 was used for data analysis. The results indicated that the moral decision-making mode was the most prevalent among the financial leaders. The financial leaders had a moderate ability to detect phishing emails. Affect and moral decision-making modes were significant predictors of the Phish Scale scores.
