| Resumen: | With mobile technology becoming more common in the lives of adolescents in the 21st century, student mobile phone use in schools has become a subject of increasing attention among secondary education stakeholders. Previous studies have delved into the causes, the effects, and possible solutions to this concern. The reviewed literature included details on mobile phone addiction, mobile phone multitasking and its effects on cognitive function and learning, and the ways in which some schools intervened through implementation of new policies. To bring attention to this issue and to continue to examine the effects of student mobile phone use in schools and the ways to decrease the negative effects of such mobile phone use, this project addressed the issue of student mobile phone use within a content-area department at an urban high school. In doing so the project’s aim was to gain insight into the perspectives and professional experience of educators within that department and unite those educators to take action against negative student mobile phone use in their classrooms through the collaborative development of classroom norms to be implemented in the 2025-2026 school year. The long term impact this project may have is continuing the efforts to address student mobile phone use in schools and increase engagement and academic success among students. |
