This article outlines the situation of medicine in the Middle Ages, the changes occurred between the eleventh and twelfth centuries with the birth of the University and the veto on the entry of women. It also draws the role of women at the social level, as medical patient and as healer, focusing in this case on Trota of Salerno. Content analysis about Practica Secundum Trotam and the compendium De curis mulierum gives a glimpse about some facts of her professional life, as well as the existence of a women healers community in Salerno. | |
