Para él, la persona irónica “adopted the pose of a man who knew nothing and was asking for information”. Tiempo después el término fue definido como “saying the contrary of what one means, as saying one thing but meaning another… a phrasing in order to blame and blaming in order to praise. The concept of "irony" has varied over time. For Socrates, irony consisted in intentionally feigning ignorance. For him, the ironic "adopted the pose of a man who knew nothing and asked for information." For Aristotle it was a "simulation or false modesty" and for the Greeks "dissimulio". This concept was modified until it acquired its own value and the category of trope. Later, the term was defined as "saying the opposite of what one means, such as saying one thing but wanting another...A phrasing to blame and blaming to praise. Nowadays "irony" has been defined in dictionaries as "the figure of speech that consists of implying the opposite of what is said".It is for this reason that "romantic irony" arises and, as a consequence, the need to define it. "Romantic irony" was developed in Germany in the last decade of the eighteenth century and the first decade of the nineteenth century by the German philosopher Friedrich Schlegel, who is credited with the best definition of the term as he recognized it with the phrase "romantic irony," which speaks of the conscious deception and deception of the person. It is in this way that this study addresses this concept in the narrative of Poli Délano, Roberto Bolaño and Isabel Allende separately, highlighting some elements such as the splitting of the characters, nationalism, that of being and non-being and the principle of creation and self-creation, in order to demonstrate the essence of romantic irony in the three chapters studied. | |
