Resumen:Worship in liturgical Christian churches faces a significant challenge due to generational and cultural differences in worship styles. Older members of the congregation, accustomed to traditional hymns, often feel uncomfortable with the rhythms and contemporary styles preferred by younger individuals, creating tensions within the community. This discrepancy is further accentuated by the fact that younger generations have grown up in diverse cultural contexts, which influences their appreciation of worship. This qualitative, phenomenological study aimed to explore the phenomenon of diversity and freedom in the worship ministry of an Episcopal liturgical church in the eastern region of Puerto Rico. The goal was to understand the challenges and tensions that arise when trying to reconcile traditional worship styles with the desires of a younger congregation. Four research questions guided the inquiry. The convenience and purposeful sample consisted of 10 parishioners aged 21 to 60, in their natural setting within an Episcopal church. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview technique with a script of 9 questions. Data analysis was developed using the DAI Model (Describe, Analyze, Interpret). From this analysis, 11 categories and 8 subcategories emerged. The results of the collected data indicate that: 1) the majority of participants (80%) expressed openness to welcoming people with non-traditional worship styles. The diversity in expressions of faith within the community holds significant meaning, as participants show their willingness to embrace it. Parishioners value unconventional worship experiences, believing that these can enrich their own spiritual practice and foster an inclusive environment. They assign particular meaning to broader spiritual growth, promoting a culture of acceptance and respect that enhances spiritual life in the church; 2) The diversity of worship expressions is not only recognized but also celebrated within these communities. These spontaneous expressions suggest progress toward a more inclusive practice within the liturgy. Worship in liturgical churches remains a central pillar of the spiritual experience, serving as a means of unifying the church of Christ; 3) The purpose of a rite is memorial, religious, symbolic, and social, containing formulas within each sacramental celebration such as the Eucharist, Confirmation, Baptism, among others. Rituals create a sense of community and belonging, strengthening religious identity within the same liturgy, in the same worship environment, and in a spirit of unity; and 4) Worship can be a means of promoting inner peace, as exemplified in the celebration of the Eucharist, where participants experience the presence of the Risen Christ in a shared worship setting. The church's ability to embrace diversity in worship and foster a sense of unity among its members also reflects the idea that each congregation is unique, and that diversity is a strength. This research aimed to provide empirical knowledge to assist in the planning of training programs to improve diversity and flexibility in worship within the church. This would benefit both local congregations and other Episcopal and liturgical communities in Puerto Rico, where each liturgical church has its own style, form, expressions, and uniqueness in worship. However, the research did not aim to favor one worship style over another but to provide a deeper understanding of biblical teaching on worship and the church. This includes both its cultural and liturgical diversity and the search for ways to unify the faithful in worship that transcends generations and individual preferences. A possible direction for future research could be how different generations within the congregation experience and express their worship. This could reveal significant variations in liturgical practices and the reception of diverse styles. Puerto Rico is a melting pot of cultures, and diversity in worship may reflect this cultural richness. The more the diversity of worship styles is understood and appreciated, the more it enriches the life of the church.
