| Whakarāpopotonga: | Most wireless network devices today operate on batteries. Hence, power consumption becomes an important issue. To maximize the lifetime of wireless networks, the power consumption rate of each node must be evenly distributed, and the overall transmission power for each connection request must be minimized. These two objectives cannot be satisfied simultaneously by employing normal routing algorithms proposed in past years. In this paper, different energy-optimized routing protocols have been studied to design efficient energy-based routing schemes. The main contribution of this paper is to provide an exhaustive survey of the energy-optimized routing protocols for wireless sensor and mobile ad-hoc networks as well as their classification based on their energy efficiency metrics. |
