| 520 | 3 | |a The problem addressed by this study was the exhaustion of Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) addresses since 2011 which presents a critical infrastructure challenge affecting global Internet connectivity. Every device requires a unique IP address, yet IPv4's limited address space cannot support projected growth in global population and Internet of Things (IoT) connected devices. Despite Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) providing a solution, organizations continue to delay migration. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to understand the quintessential factors that inhibit American based large-scale (employees ≥ 1,000) companies operating in the textile manufacturing industry from undertaking the IPv4 to IPv6 migration process. The research employed the Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) framework to understand how organizational maturity affects technology infrastructure transformation. The study utilized focus group interviews with 25 information technology professionals from American-based textile manufacturing companies with 1,000+ employees. Data collection involved four focus groups, analyzed using thematic analysis with constant comparative methods. Results revealed that organizations at higher CMMI levels demonstrated more proactive approaches to IPv6 migration, with better risk management and strategic planning. Knowledge gaps emerged as a critical barrier, with higher CMMI maturity organizations better equipped to address these gaps. The findings demonstrated that successful IPv6 migration required organizational maturity to support systematic planning, resource allocation, and knowledge management. Recommendations included developing maturity-appropriate frameworks and implementing structured training programs. This research provided evidence-based guidance while expanding understanding of how organizational maturity influences technology infrastructure transformations. | |
