| Resumen: | El arte, en sus diversas formas de expresión, ha sido desde los inicios de la humanidad una herramienta de comunicación fundamental para el ser humano, permitiendo transmitir ideas, emociones, creencias y valores. En el contexto religioso, especialmente en el cristianismo, el arte ha jugado un papel clave no sólo como un medio estético sino también como un instrumento teológico y pedagógico que ha permitido expresar lo divino, enseñar los principios de la fe y las experiencias de adoración. Las narraciones bíblicas, la construcción del Tabernáculo y el Templo, los Salmos, las parábolas de Jesús y las obras de arte a lo largo de la historia del cristianismo son solamente algunas de las manifestaciones que evidencian cómo la creatividad humana se ha canalizado para comunicar el mensaje de Dios.En Puerto Rico, como en muchos otros espacios a nivel global, las iglesias se enfrentan al reto de llevar el mensaje bíblico a una generación inmersa en una cultura multisensorial, visual y digital. Sin embargo, en muchas congregaciones persiste una limitada utilización de las artes como recurso ministerial. Este fenómeno se debe a una serie de razones relacionadas a la teología, la historia y la cultura que van desde el temor al emocionalismo hasta la falta de formación o desconocimiento del valor comunicativo y espiritual que encierran las artes.Por esta razón, el presente trabajo de disertación doctoral tiene como propósito principal examinar el uso de las artes en la comunicación del mensaje bíblico en iglesias evangélicas del área metropolitana de Puerto Rico. Por medio de un estudio cualitativo, basado en entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas a pastores de seis congregaciones, tres de congregaciones denominacionales y tres no afiliadas, se pretende identificar cuáles son las expresiones artísticas más utilizadas, con qué fines son implementadas y cuáles han sido las experiencias ministeriales a partir del uso del arte en el contexto litúrgico y pedagógico.Este estudio parte de la experiencia personal y pastoral del investigador, quien, con más de cuarenta años de activa y continua participación en las artes y ministerio cristiano, ha podido observar tanto el potencial transformador de las expresiones artísticas como la resistencia y los prejuicios que aún persisten en algunas congregaciones. Esta perspectiva aporta una dimensión vivencial al análisis académico, confirmando que las artes cuando se dirigen a la gloria de Dios y se fundamentan en la Palabra, pueden ser instrumentos legítimos y poderosos para edificar, evangelizar y comunicar con profundidad el mensaje del Evangelio.Además, sirve de reflexión sobre la necesidad urgente de fomentar una educación teológica y artística que capacite a los líderes y comunidades de fe en el uso consciente, estratégico y bíblicamente fundamentado de las artes. En una cultura altamente influenciada por lo visual y lo digital, las iglesias están llamadas a redescubrir el valor del arte como lenguaje que no solo comunica, sino que forma, transforma e involucra al ser humano de manera integral.La relevancia de esta investigación se acentúa por la escasa literatura local sobre el tema y por el interés creciente en renovar la liturgia y la pedagogía para alcanzar eficazmente a las nuevas generaciones. Se espera que los hallazgos de este estudio contribuyan a la reflexión crítica, el diseño de estrategias ministeriales creativas y la construcción de puentes en la tradición bíblica, el quehacer artístico y la misión contemporánea de la iglesia en Puerto Rico. Art, in its various forms of expression, has been since the beginning of humanity a fundamental communication tool for human beings, allowing the transmission of ideas, emotions, beliefs and values. In the religious context, especially in Christianity, art has played a key role not only as an aesthetic medium but also as a theological and pedagogical instrument that has allowed expressing the divine, teaching the principles of faith and worship experiences. Biblical narratives, the construction of the Tabernacle and the Temple, the Psalms, the parables of Jesus and the works of art throughout the history of Christianity are only some of the manifestations that show how human creativity has been channeled to communicate the message of God.In Puerto Rico, as in many other spaces globally, churches face the challenge of bringing the biblical message to a generation immersed in a multisensory, visual and digital culture. However, in many congregations there is still a limited use of the arts as a ministerial resource. This phenomenon is due to a number of reasons related to theology, history and culture, ranging from fear of emotionalism to lack of training or ignorance of the communicative and spiritual value of the arts.For this reason, the main purpose of this doctoral dissertation is to examine the use of the arts in the communication of the biblical message in evangelical churches in the metropolitan area of Puerto Rico. Through a qualitative study, based on semi-structured interviews with pastors from six congregations, three denominational congregations and three non-denominational congregations, the aim is to identify which artistic expressions are most used, for what purposes they are implemented and what have been the ministerial experiences from the use of art in the liturgical and pedagogical context.This study is based on the personal and pastoral experience of the researcher, who, with more than forty years of active and continuous participation in the arts and Christian ministry, has been able to observe both the transforming potential of artistic expressions and the resistance and prejudices that persist in some congregations. This perspective brings an experiential dimension to the academic analysis, confirming that the arts, when directed to the glory of God and grounded in the Word, can be legitimate and powerful instruments to edify, evangelize and communicate the Gospel message in depth.It also serves as a reflection on the urgent need to foster theological and artistic education that trains leaders and faith communities in the conscious, strategic and biblically grounded use of the arts. In a culture highly influenced by the visual and digital, churches are called to rediscover the value of art as a language that not only communicates, but also forms, transforms and involves the human being in an integral way.The relevance of this research is accentuated by the scarce local literature on the subject and by the growing interest in renewing liturgy and pedagogy to effectively reach new generations. It is hoped that the findings of this study will contribute to critical reflection, the design of creative ministerial strategies and the building of bridges between the biblical tradition, the artistic endeavor and the contemporary mission of the church in Puerto Rico. |
