Samenvatting:This article provides an overview of evidence-based suicide risk assessment and intervention methods geared towards practicing mental health professionals working in hospital-based settings (eg, inpatient, emergency departments, intensive outpatient programs and standard outpatient programs). Empirically validated screening questionnaires, more in-depth assessment tools, and prevention interventions that directly address suicidal thoughts and behaviors are briefly described. Guidelines for implementing these methods are outlined, and links to associated resources are provided. Consideration is given to the limitations of existing research.
