| Resumen: | This dissertation analyzes the fictional representation of the poveiro, their customs and traditions in the docufiction Ala-Arriba! (1942) by Leitão de Barros. The relevance of the contribution of a director, a playwright, Alfredo Cortez, and an ethnographer, António dos Santos Graça, to the detail in the planning of the verbal, visual and sound narrative will be analyzed. To this end, the cinematography of Leitão de Barros, the argument made by Alfredo Cortez and the traditions in António dos Santos Graça’s ethnographic studies on Póvoa are considered. Carrying out a comparative analysis between Ala-Arriba! and the ethnographic work on which it is based – O Poveiro (1932) by Santos Graça –, it is possible to understand the propaganda of the ideals of the Estado Novo in this romanticized representation of the fishing community of Póvoa. It is concluded that Ala-Arriba! is a cinematographic work that is simultaneously fictional and documentary.  |
