| 520 | 3 | |a This internship report aims to show the process of applying for an internship, an integral part of the Master's in Translation and Linguistic Services at the University of Porto. It describes the duties performed throughout its duration at the Soares dos Reis National Museum in Porto, the entity of choice. The work is divided into three chapters, each one focusing on a different aspect of the internship. The first chapter details the search for an institution that would accept my application and how the application process unfolded. Moreover, it also describes the goals of the internship and the abilities that it is to improve. These covered such skills as the knowledge of CAT tools and improving the workflow of a freelance translator. Next, the work introduces a theoretical chapter that would help to analyze the wide array of translated texts. The second chapter presents the most important concepts from the fields of translation, localization, and textual analysis as devised by Reiss & Vermeer, Hejwowski or Nord, amongst others. These help to clarify the bases of the work's methodology for the practical analysis in the last, third chapter. In it, the work moves onto establishing a methodology for the majority of practical cases analyzed here: identifying the difficulty, the translation strategy and the technique utilized to solve the problem. Then, the analysis finishes by surveying the function and the genre of the analyzed text. However, a distinction is made between the cases that follow this structure and those where it is changed to obtain the best results. The conclusion of the work focuses on a general overview of the internship as a whole and the results of the analysis from the third chapter, suggesting the course that the future investigation in this area can take. | |
