Resumen:In the international context, it is accepted that bone fractures heal through a prolonged process, culminating in significant regeneration that can be evaluated by X-rays approximately twelve months after the start of definitive treatment, or even at the same time if conservative treatment has been chosen. Several factors are involved in this process, among the most important being the proportion of oxygen present in the patient's blood. It is also widely recognized that the oxygen saturation in the bloodstream is proportional to the partial pressure of oxygen in the atmosphere, which varies depending on the patient's altitude above sea level.Currently, it is accepted worldwide that altitudes greater than 2500-3000 meters above sea level (masl) reduce the rate of bone regeneration by approximately 20-30%, resulting in a similar proportion of non-union failures. Locally, in the city of Juliaca, studies on this aspect are almost nonexistent, and the few that exist focus on variables such as the stability of the fracture reduction provided by the osteosynthesis material.
