Popis
Abstrakt:The need for and possible effects of a state-funded work-study program for students in California colleges and universities in a comprehensive system of student financial aid were assessed. After considering current levels of funding for all financial aid programs in California, attention is focused on the specific needs that could be addressed by a state-funded work-study program. For the California public and private sectors, information is provided on participation in the federally authorized College Work-Study program for 1979-1980 and 1983-1984, with attention to funding levels, number of awards, and number of participating institutions. Participation by sector in the job location and development component of the College Work-Study program, and utilization rates of program funds are also reported. The range of options available within work-study programs and the policy issues associated with each option are also discussed, including administrative structure and state-level regulation and evaluation. For the federal program and those of 11 states, information is provided on the eligibility of different classifications of students, institutions, and employers. (SW)
