The intent is to have students explore new concepts by experimenting with different situations. Most teachers of mathematics have not learned mathematics in an active way, and thus need to experience the approach they will be expected to use with students. The Inservice Guide is intended to serve as a tool for a master teacher to introduce middle school teachers to the seven units and thus to an active approach to learning mathematics.
