| Abstract: | A systematically-obtained list of doctoral programs in the 13 western states is presented, along with brief narratives of program content and emphasis and statistical data on student enrollment and the number of degrees awarded. Program data and descriptions were obtained from institutions and from statewide coordinating agencies. After data and program descriptions were reviewed by the coordinating agency and processed by the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education, they were returned to the states and institutions for review and corrections. The inventory first presents a simple program index that lists each program and institution in subject order according to the HEGIS Taxonomy. In this inventory, only the following data are presented: HEGIS code, program name, state, institution name, and total number of programs for each HEGIS code. The second inventory presented adds statistical information on each program and a brief program description. The programs are again listed by HEGIS code. This listing includes the following information: name of program; institution; program description; number of earned masters and doctoral degrees conferred for each year from 1973-1974 through 1977-1978; full-time and part-time graduate enrollment for 1977-1978; mandatory ceiling on enrollment, and whether the ceiling level had been reached as of May 1979.
