520 |a This research was focused on the description of the level of English achieved by the Journalism students in the school of Arts and Sciences at the University of El Salvador semester I-2019. The variables considered were the teaching methodology, the students’ study habits and the number of students in the classroom. A case study design was followed with a mixed method approach. First, classes were observed during two weeks to discover how the classes were developed to characterize the student teacher, the teacher-students as well as the student-student interactions during classes, and to describe the students’ behavior and the teaching strategies implemented by the teacher. The next step was to interview the teachers in order to know their opinion about their methodology and their students´ learning process. Also, a questionnaire was administered to the sample student to collect information about their study habits in regards to the Intensive English III course semester I, 2019. At the end of the semester, a standardized Cambridge test was administered to measure the level of English of the sample students. The purpose was to provide valuable information about the students’ level of English and how they had acquired it. The results can be used to improve the way English is taught to future journalism students
