Riassunto:The reason of this project is to carefully observe the use of the language that every student has in the classroom, in order to find out the most common patterns of fossilization in the advanced English courses at the Foreign Language Department (FLD) of the University of El Salvador (UES). The fossilization theory is one of the most famous kinds of study in linguistics. In 1972, Selinker proposed that fossilization is the cessation of learning in spite of rich exposure to input, adequate motivation to learn, and abundant opportunity for communicative practice. Fossilization has to do with the level reached by a student in a target language, linguists pointed out many factors that can influence when learning a target language or L2 some of them are the age, psychological factors and the mother tongue; this just to mention some of the main factors that can make students struggle in L2. These factors will be taken into consideration by the researchers in the courses of the chosen population.
