| Sumari: | At a global level, tourism has shown that it can generate positive impacts in the economic and social sphere. In the last four decades, cultural tourism emerged as part of the diversification of the tourist offer and within this, intangible heritage has received increasing attention by various segments of cultural tourism consumers. Among these segments is language tourism, whose main reason for travel is to learn a foreign language in contexts of linguistic immersion. Thus, within the framework of intangible cultural heritage, the objective of this work is to characterize the activity of language learning as an element that enhances sustainable tourism, from an economic perspective and tourist attraction. Based on the compensation principle of Kaldor and Hicks, based on the Pareto optimum, language is proposed as a precursor of lower transaction costs, and an intangible resource that can compensate for the welfare lost by consumers and companies in economic systems. Likewise, based in Boullón, it is argued that language is a tourist attraction as long as there is a tourist plant, infrastructure and regulation of the language tourism system. It is concluded that the language, to be a tourist attraction, requires the physical, temporal and economic adaptation of the destination, mainly through language teaching centers, which play a strategic role in positioning the language as an intangible cultural resource that potentially favors a local development that considers both economic growth and improvement in the quality of life of the population |
