Sumari:The development of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) is a determining factor in today’s society to promote the socioeconomic and productive growth of countries. In this paper, with the objective of contextualizing the situation in El Salvador, some of the indicators generally used by the international scientific community to measure STI activities are presented. An analysis is made of the policies, laws or regulatory instruments that the country has in this area to promote Research and Development (R&D) activities and fulfill its role as a catalyst of the National Innovation System. Finally, in relation to the country’s policies, the policy instruments and advances of the University of El Salvador (UES) as a relevant actor of the National Innovation System are presented
