Shrnutí:The following article has two objectives: To identify the different types of corn as coded by the Salvadorian tariff system and to evaluate what is the tariff concessions granted by El Salvador for American corn imports. To evaluate that protection, this text focuses on the three most important corn types included in the Free Trade Agreement with the USA: White corn, yellow corn and corn seed. To achieve aforementioned objectives, the present work adopts food sovereignty as conceptual framework. Based of the mentioned agreement, white corn has been partially liberalized only applying import quotas as protection. In the case of yellow corn, the quotas are significantly higher than those applied to white maize, with the difference that the former will achieve zero tariff in the 15th year. Finally, corn seed enjoys zero tariff since the treaty came into force in 2006.
