Descripció
Sumari:During the 20th century, the trend towards integration took on a special role, particularly after some regional successes in terms of trade relations. This trend has marked the agenda of various conglomerates of countries with joint historical roots, calling them to seek forms of integration adapted to their realities. Thus, Central America, as a case study, has received several integration suggestions, especially on the monetary issue. This article analyzes the various proposals for monetary integration for Central America, from an eminently technical perspective about the minimum conditions required to carry out a monetary unification, making a contrast between these conditions and the Central American reality, as well as a breakdown of the particular technicalities of each country, which should be overcome to generate integration. Then the existing proposals are considered, related to the creation of a new currency, the adoption of the US dollar or the possibility of implementing a virtual currency, exposing the technical advantages and disadvantages of each of the alternatives.
