description The objective of this article is to determine soft skills as a factor for success in project management of cooperation for development in six departments of El Salvador. In order to achieve the objectives, the theoretical bases used were the Project Manager competency development framework developed by the Project Management Institute, authors of organizational behavior, and articles of journals of high scientific impact in project management were used. The methodological framework was focused on an epistemological approach of positivist or quantitative paradigm. The type of research was descriptive, non-experimental and transectional. The instrument for data collection was a survey. The population were 72 professionals with a sample of 65 project management professionals that will share their experiences at the time to evaluate the soft skills necessary to the success of the intervention as in their project manager or its collaborators. The results showed the prevalence of soft skills inside the personal competencies necessary for the success of an intervention, accompanied by the interpersonal skills key in the acquisition of these competencies, also the implicit role that these play in the development of those intervention and the impending necessity of an extensive formation in soft skills.

El objetivo del presente artículo es determinar las habilidades blandas como factor de éxito en la gestión de proyectos de cooperación al desarrollo en seis departamentos de El Salvador. Para alcanzar los objetivos se utilizaron las bases teóricas para el desarrollo de competencias de la dirección de proyectos, del Project Management Institute, autores de comportamiento organizacional y artículos de revistas científicos en gestión de proyectos, en el cual aparecen relacionadas una serie de competencias personales con sus correspondientes elementos y criterios de desempeño que profundizan estas habilidades que pueden ser evaluadas a partir de evidencias. Este artículo presenta un enfoque epistemológico de paradigma positivista. El tipo de investigación fue descriptivo con un diseño no experimental, transeccional y cuantitativo. El instrumento de recolección de datos fue una encuesta. La población es de 72 profesionales en la gestión de proyectos, con una muestra seleccionada aleatoriamente de 65 profesionales que compartirán sus experiencias a la hora de identificar las habilidades blandas necesarias para el éxito de la intervención tanto en el director del proyecto como en los colaboradores de este. Los resultados arrojaron la prevalencia de las habilidades blandas dentro de las competencias personales claves para el éxito de una intervención, acompañado de las habilidades interpersonales como clave en la adquisición de tales competencias, a la vez del papel implícito de estas en cada paso del desarrollo de tales intervenciones y la necesidad de una formación más extensa en habilidades blandas.
