Riassunto:The article analyzes the search for a cognitive framework of the Central American integration process from the perspective of institutional change, in this sense, a review is made of: (i) the analytical background, (ii) the internal and external tensions in the conceptualization of the Central American Integration System (SICA), (iii) the coexistence between intergovernmentalism and supranationality in SICA, (iv) the induced institutional balances, (v) regional integration as the construction of a moral community based on trust; and by way of conclusion: (vi) the pilgrimage of institutional change in the Central American integration project.
