Descripció
Resum:In this study I attribute the composition of the Book of Alexandre to the magister of the University of Palencia and member of the School of Translators of Toledo Hermann the German: I base myself on various textual, biographical and historical reasons. Among the evidence I provide is the reference in the work to the Lord of Sicily -Manfredo de Hohenstaufen-, to the scriptorium of Moncayo" (Santa María de Piedra) and of "Cogolla" (San Millán de la Cogolla), to the capture of Damietta in 1219 by the Teutonic Order to which he belonged, to his ideological proximity -like Berceo- to Lateran reformism and to his good knowledge of Aristotle, an author he translated and whose great knowledge in the Book of Alexandre is shown on many occasions. Nor is the similar literary conception of 'translation' and gloss in his version of the biblical Psalter and in the translation and gloss of his sources in the Book of Alexandre. KEY WORDS: mester de clerecia; Hermann the German'; Book of Alexandre; authorship, dating. 1.- Antecedentes y propósito El Libro de Alexandre es una de las obras medievales más complejas de nuestra literatura.
